I thought I should start sharing with you some of my articles on styling tips. Recently I wrote this article on Fesjen.com on cropped pants and slip dresses. Those are kind of older trends that are now back into style and the good thing here is that probably many of you can find it in the back of your closet. If you don’t, then be creative! There are so many ways to bring to life an old trend without overspending. If you would rather spend “0” dollars for your cropped pants, you can dig deep into your closet for a wide-leg pair of pants. Straight-cut or even boot-cut would work as well. Then, get your scissors and cut it (straight) to your mid-calf length or a little lower. If you want to make a bigger statement, cut the front shorter than the back; careful, this is too ambitious.
The best slip dresses are the real ones. And the real ones are those were made to go under your dress and into your bed. Do you remember in old movies or Madmen, when women were undressing and instead of lots of skin you were seeing another dress? That’s the one. You can find real silk dress on vintage stores. The old ones were made out of silk or synthetic satin and what is great about them is that they are not elastic like the new ones. The look like real dresses and they come in different colors.
Here are some tips from the article on how to style them:
“….Culottes are the fashionista’s best new trend! The A-Line minimal shape of it along with the fact that they are so comfortable revolutionizes the traditional pants. It fits well to mostly every body type as it creates the image of a slim waistline and slimmer calves. These Theory mid-rise Culottes would look great with a printed shirt or silk blouse and a pair or sharp black pumps. To make it more playful and less minimal you can add a colorful print on top and match it with color-blocking pumps. If you have plans for a dinner night or happy hour after work, you can pair it with a nice pair of elegant high-heeled sandals. If on the other hand you want to style it down a notch, you can wear it with a biker’s jacket and your sneakers.
What I love about these trousers is not just how comfortable they are but how easily they can be styled for any occasion. Some of us can’t handle tight pants and we oppress ourselves with those because we think that you have no other choice. Not true. Despite the fact that this pair of trousers looks casual, imagine it with a sleek pair of modern loafers and a sleeveless overcoat.
If I was to say that I have an obsession with slip dresses, this one would definitely be the reason. Even though Theory’s color palette is mostly on the monotone verge, the colors they display on the few colorful items are dreamy. This baby blue silk dress is ideal for flattering any skin type. Nonetheless, the airy silky material and shape can highlight a girl’s strong assets. For example, if your hips are wider than your shoulders, you can style this dress with an oversized cropped sweater, to give more volume to the top. If on the other hand your shoulders are wider than your hips, you can pair it with a sleeveless overcoat or a slim-fit jacket.
Lastly, if you want to create the effect of a slimmer waist, you can add a mid-size belt or a short slim jacket. You can go to work in this dress, but make sure you keep the top part covered as you don’t want a lot of skin exposure, match it with oxford shoes, loafers or a pair of mid-height heels, and if you style it up, you can even go to a wedding in this dress!…”
